On October 27th and 28th, 2021, the Sir Dwada Kairaba Jawara conference center in Banjul played host to the Private Sector Participation in Good Governance summit. The summit brought together over a hundred delegates from the public, private, and non-government sectors, as well as entrepreneurs, to discuss ways to harmonize private sector development with inclusive growth and economic development.

The summit began with an opening ceremony featuring keynote addresses from the U.S Embassy Banjul, who highlighted the U.S government's contribution towards public-private partnerships. The director of trade and industry from the Ministry of Trade also spoke about the government's role in fostering public-private partnerships, as well as a representative of the United Nations resident representative.

The summit featured a panel discussion with six panelists and a moderator, who delved into the challenges, successes, and recommendations for an effective public-private partnership. Topics such as political constraints on entrepreneurs' journeys, access to information, the role of the private sector, and the interdependency between the public and private sectors were extensively discussed.

To further explore the topics at hand, delegates were divided into two groups based on their preference. In open discussion sessions, participants shared personal experiences and challenges such as high tax rates, institutional failures, lack of proper coordination, and unhealthy competition between the public and private sectors. These issues were thoroughly discussed and recommendations were provided on how to address them.

Overall, the summit was a great success, providing a platform for key players in the public, private, and non-government sectors to come together and discuss ways to achieve inclusive growth and economic development through public-private partnerships. The conference highlighted the importance of cooperation between the sectors and the need for a coordinated effort to address the challenges that entrepreneurs and businesses face in the country.
