Omar's Bio

GREEN HECTARE BANANA FARMS (GHBF) is a sole proprietorship, wholly owned and managed by OMAR JALLOW located at Basori village, kombo east, west coast on a five hectares land. The business is established for the production of disease-free banana through tissue culture technique in commercial quantities. Tissue culture technique involves generating a plant from a stem, leave or root in a very sterile and hygienic environment into plentiful quantities. The bananas are disease free, grow faster, high yielding, uniform, and big bunch sizes and can be harvested 3 to 4 within a year. GHBF is committed to practicing sustainable and standard farming practices recommended to maximise its production and income. GHBF’s holistic approach is to be part of the entire supply chain of banana industry by extending its services to post-harvest processing, packaging, branding and marketing processes of banana. Strategically, GHBF will alongside grow vegetables like okra, green beans, pepper, watermelon etc. that are of a short gestation period. Subsequently, the income generated will be invested back into the farm to buy more planting materials and inputs until our farms attained their maximum production. As organic manure is very important for plant growth and productivity, GHBF will use its post-harvest residues like banana leaves, stems, and unwanted banana fingers into rich organic manure by composing them with animal dungs. Nothing to waste! Finally, GHBF will form banana farmers association. The intention is to teach all banana farmers and new farmers the advantages of the tissue culture technique, adaptation of standard cultural practice so as to achieve higher yields and maximise profit production. This will also ensure consistency in quality of the banana. The association will be responsible for distributing the products to its customers or market, therefore eliminating the middlemen. This will help farmers to determine the price of their products.
